
Deepali Modha’s unconventional career journey

When Deepali Modha first qualified as an Optometrist, she never imagined her career would one day take her far beyond the test room. But over the years, she’s carved out a path that’s as inspiring as it is unexpected- one that’s taken her from clinical practice to regional leadership, with plenty of learning, growth, and bold decisions along the way.
Curiosity beyond the clinic
“I started out in optics because I love eyes. That’s my thing,” Deepali says. “Helping someone see clearly for the first time- it’s such a powerful thing. But I also knew early on that I was curious about more than just the clinical side.” That curiosity became the driving force behind her career. After several years as a practicing Optometrist, Deepali began exploring opportunities to broaden her impact.
Saying yes to growth
She took on additional responsibilities in store, supported colleagues with training, and gradually stepped into more strategic roles. “I didn’t have a grand plan,” she admits. “But I said yes to things. I asked questions. I got involved. And over time, I realised I was building a whole new skill set.”
Her journey took her through a variety of roles- each one adding a new layer to her experience. From Optometrist to Clinical Engagement Manager, and eventually into her current role as a Regional Relationship Manager (RRM), Deepali has worn many hats. And each one has taught her something new. Leading with purpose “As an RRM, I now support multiple stores across the region,” she explains. “It’s a big shift from being in one consulting room. But it’s also incredibly rewarding. I get to work with amazing teams, help shape strategy, and support people at every stage of their careers.”
Beyond her role at Specsavers, Deepali is deeply involved in shaping the wider profession. She serves as a College of Optometrists Examiner, a WOPEC Assessor, and a member of the Hertfordshire Local Optical Committee (LOC). These roles allow her to contribute to the development of clinical standards and support the next generation of optometrists.
A career of many hats

Championing development
One of the things Deepali is most passionate about is development- both her own and that of others. She’s a strong advocate for continuous learning and believes that growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.
The power of storytelling
She’s also a big believer in the power of storytelling- especially when it comes to inspiring the next generation. “There are so many brilliant people in our businesses,” she says. “Sometimes they just need a little encouragement to share their story or take that next step.”
Deepali’s own story is a testament to what’s possible when you stay curious, stay open, and keep moving forward- even when the path isn’t perfectly mapped out. Sometimes, the most rewarding paths are the ones you create for yourself.
Advice for the curious
Her advice to others in optics who might be wondering what else is out there? “Don’t box yourself in. Your degree is just the beginning. There are so many ways to grow in this industry- clinically, commercially, operationally. Be brave. Ask questions. And don’t be afraid to try something new.”
