Salary: $52,000 -$65,000

What You’ll Do


Purpose of the role


This role needs to hold complete accountability on day-to-day basis for edging, quality control and workflow planning for all frame to follow jobs, with high focus on quality standards and manufacturing lead-times.

Moreover, this position requires a high level of autonomy and independence. It emphasizes promptly addressing any quality or operational issues by reporting them to the Customer Service Supervisor as soon as they arise.


Key Responsibilities

  •  Supervise and coordinate laboratory operations by overseeing day-to-day activities in the manufacturing lab, ensuring a smooth workflow, and collaborating with team members to achieve production targets.
  •  Perform quality checks on optical components and finished products to verify compliance with specified Specsavers standards and promptly address the respective teams if any identified quality issues.
  •  Maintain and calibrate optical manufacturing equipment to achieve precise and consistent results, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and arranging for necessary repairs.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior lab technicians, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and safety protocols, and fostering professional development within the team including performance management, and maintain records of time/attendance and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish or adjust work assignments as needed to meet daily production targets.
  • Coordinate with the customer service team to ensure timely delivery of customer orders and provide timely feedback to the labs on quality issues for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Customer Service Supervisor to discuss process improvements.
  • Perform duties in compliance with health and safety standards and procedures and participate in improvement initiatives to support Specsavers’ continuous improvement philosophy.
  • Fulfil any other reasonable tasks assigned by the manager and meet the set KPIs.
  • Participate in developing monthly team KPIs to enhance accountability and accuracy and communicate goals, objectives, strategies, results, and plans effectively.
  • Take responsibility for all incoming and outgoing jobs in the lab and promote company safety policies to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Effectively communicating with the stores to resolve any conflicts and disputes regarding the tolerances, quality, and rejected returns.
  • Logging ServiceNow tickets with IT and working closely with them on the resolution.
  • Assessing lab error and warranty credits against the Specsavers standards and policies.
  • Placing special orders with the 3rd party labs.
  • Working closely with internal and external labs to raise and resolve quality issues.
  • Complete any other tasks in line with the company policies as requested by Customer Service Supervisor.


What We’re Looking For


A qualified person will demonstrate the following:

Essential Skills: 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Optical environment.
  • Basic Computer skills – Windows, Internet, Email, Excel, Word etc.
  • Language: English.
  • Licensed Optician
  • Excellent communication skills in English are required to read, write, and communicate.
  • Previous edging and glazing experience.

Desirable Skills: 

  • Ability and confidence to deal with complex situations from start to finish with minimal supervision.
