Store Accountant

Salary: $77,000-87,000

Actual compensation within range will be based on experience

Main Purpose of the Team

The role of the Stores Reporting team is to provide accounting and financial reporting for each retail store location.  The team fields queries from external and internal stakeholders and ensures that all financial records and reports are accurate and relevant.  With support from the Manager of Stores Reporting and Controller, the Store Accountant will complete the store month end procedures, prepare monthly management reporting packs for the retail stores and prepare the annual financial statements.

Main Purpose of the Role

Stores Reporting is responsible for the production of monthly and year-end accounts for Canadian retail stores.

You will be responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for the Canadian retail stores, ensuring the data provided is both accurate and provided on a timely basis.

The role would also involve monthly bank reconciliations, third party insurance reconciliations, as well as the reconciliation of retail store sales and debtor balances, whilst investigating any variances. In addition to actioning allocated activities as part of the monthly close process to agreed timelines.

You would also work with the Controller, Tax Manager, and other Store Accountants to investigate queries from the retail stores, so they can better understand their financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsibility for the accounting of a portfolio of stores from checking accuracy of accounts ledgers through to the preparation of the accounts on the monthly basis.
• Responsibility for the year end tasks including resolving audit queries.
• Bank reconciliations, third party insurance reconciliations, sales reconciliations and GST and PST reconciliations.
• Ad hoc projects which impact store accounting.
• Timely resolution of retail stores queries in relation to financial matters.
• Timely resolution of queries from within the Specsavers Support Office.
• Providing information and financial support to internal (Support Office and Regional Managers) and external (store Partners) business stakeholders.
• Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement within the department and wider Finance team.
• Proactively identify opportunities and risks to drive and manage stores’ profitability.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships across all areas of the company and deliver excellence in customer service.

The individual

Essential skills:

• CPA qualified.
• A good understanding of accounting principles and conventions.
• Experience of maintaining accounting records using dedicated accounting system.
• Experience of financial period end processes, month/year end, covering all areas of profit and loss accounts and balance sheet.
• Microsoft Excel experience (intermediate level).
• Demonstrates effective and strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to build positive relationships with internal and external clients.
• A curious mind-set with a desire to question data integrity.

Desirable skills:

• Working knowledge of Open Accounts ERP system.
• Experience of accounting in a retail environment.
• Lease accounting experience.
