Hearing aid dispenser apprenticeship

What is a hearing aid dispenser apprenticeship?

At Specsavers, we want great people to run our great audiology services. With our apprenticeships, you can take your audiology career into your own hands from day one. This is an exciting 18-24 month opportunity that combines hands-on experience at an exciting company and campus-based learning at partnered universities. At the end, you’ll gain a nationally-recognised qualification as a Hearing Aid Dispenser.

What’s on offer and what will I gain?

As a hearing aid dispenser apprentice, you’ll split your time between a Specsavers store and one of our registered course providers, learning the ropes on-campus and putting it all into practice with us. When you complete the apprenticeship, you’ll be a registered Level 5 Hearing Aid Dispenser. This is a qualification recognised by the Health Care Professional Council (see more here).

Not only will we fund your course fees, but you’ll also earn a salary in your first year of training of £18-21,000, which will increase to £21,000-£23,000 as you start to lead consultations. After this, you’ll be ready to progress to further roles in audiology.

As a trainee Hearing Aid Dispenser, you’ll open many doors, whilst working for an exciting, fast paced and innovative company. You’ll be able to apply for Hearing Aid Dispenser roles across the country. And with further progress, you could excel in other opportunities that you might not have considered or even be aware of, including store management, staff training or even running your own store as an Audiology Partner (if that’s where you see yourself!).

Day in the life of a hearing aid dispenser apprentice

On day 1, there might be a bit of paperwork or getting to know the staff and campus. But as your apprenticeship plays out, you can be sure that every day will be varied and challenging.

You’ll provide an excellent audiology service. You’ll assess a patient’s hearing through a case history, otoscopy and audiometry testing. If needed, you’ll select the most appropriate hearing aid, undertake fittings and advise on their use, ensuring customers are fully trained on their new devices. You’ll then catch up with patients and measure their progress.

You will also get the opportunity to provide advice and guidance on earwax management and perform earwax removal safely. And throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll work with store managers, store assistants and directors, who will help support your progress.
