Jack Collins: From entry level to expert
Jack joined Specsavers in 2015 as a fresh-faced teenager, not knowing what he wanted for his future. As an optical assistant, he found a passion for optics and a curiosity to enrol in further qualifications. Qualifying as a Dispensing optician initially, he now holds the title FBDO CL and is a practising Contact lens optician and store manager.
It was the question “aren’t you just the till person?” from a patient that fuelled his determination to prove the value and expertise of his role. Jack says,
“It’s important that as our industry evolves, we strive to improve recognition and awareness of the highly qualified professionals within. It’s of utmost importance as clinicians we upskill and expand our scope of practice to ensure we stay at the forefront of ophthalmic healthcare.”
Continuous professional development is the building block to Specsavers’ success in providing the best patient care through a highly trained team of dedicated professionals. From joining with no-experience, or with experience, there are a variety of paths that support each person to carve out a career within optics or audiology, through operational or clinical careers.
Despite his towering height, at over 6ft tall, it’s Jack’s personality that has always made him stand out. He is a beloved member of the Atherstone team and well-known for his booming voice and friendly demeanour. The support that Jack has had around him has been fundamental to his success. He says, “To all those I have encountered throughout the early stages of my career, thank you for your continued support and for pushing me to be the best version of myself.”
