See your career at Specsavers: Meet Naomi, Maintenance Engineer Apprentice

See your Career Banner

My name is Naomi, and I am a first-year maintenance apprentice engineer. My journey with Specsavers started five years ago when I got a job as a production operator where I quickly progressed to an TQM. After a year in the TQM position, I applied for the maintenance engineer apprenticeship and got the job! As part of the apprenticeship, I attend college two days a week to gain the knowledge and experience I need for the job in hand.

Since I started with Specsavers, I have been given continuous support. This consists of weekly meetings, bespoke training plans, 1-2-1 meetings and mentoring.

I have been lucky enough to have travelled to Italy twice to receive in house training on the machines that we have onsite. The training was given by the manufacturers who designed and made them. It was amazing training and a great experience to be sent to another country for work. I have also completed a scissor lift course, and now have a licence. This was all funded by Specsavers to gain better knowledge and a wider job understanding.

Specsavers as a company is a great business to work for! The culture is family orientated and they are very well-known nationwide. It’s a solid business set up by husband-and-wife team with great prospects for growth and development in the future. I feel that there is genuine care about their people and will always try to support with your personal development.

I would recommend anyone interested in a long prosperous career, to look at Specsavers.
