Barrow-in-Furness is a port town in Cumbria. Although it is at the end of a peninsula, it’s only around 20 minutes from the Lake District and has been referred to as a ‘gateway to the lakes’. Historically, a shipbuilding town, today Barrow manufactures submarines with BAE Systems and is home to the new class nuclear submarine which is planned to be designed and constructed in Barrow. The town centre is a popular shopping destination and has many retail and leisure parks in the vicinity including a kart racing track, skate park and cinema complex. Barrow also has its own football, cricket and rugby clubs as well as sailing and golf clubs. There are excellent transport links; a railway station 10 minutes’ walk from the store where a train will take you to Manchester in around 2 hours. There are a number of roads that run through and around the town, allowing convenient access to the M6 motorway as well as regular bus services that run to the adjacent towns in the area.
