Role Summary

The successful candidate will fulfil a cross functional role which closely aligns the needs of the compliance team with the recommendations and specialisms of the Technical team.  They will be responsible for understanding the processes involved in the tax department and wider finance function to ensure that any risks are identified, escalated, and resolved. The primary focus will be supporting Specsavers Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) and Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) activity.

 

Brexit has substantially increased the level of customs activity that Specsavers is involved in. The tax controls analyst will also have responsibility for implementing and maintaining a routine control/test environment to ensure Specsavers is meeting its customs obligations as well as identifying areas where duty savings can be achieved.

 

The role

Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) and Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) testing

  • Support the ongoing management of CCO and SAO testing across the business
  • Ensure that the accuracy and integrity of the systems and processes is audited, and issues highlighted on an ongoing basis.

 

Advisory support and research

  • Technical understanding of the CCO and SAO legislation
  • Ensuring adherence to the Northern Ireland protocol  
  • Support with project work as and when required e.g. plastic packaging tax 2022

 

Compliance

  • Technical advice and supporting the submission of the groups 13th Directive claim
  • Responsible for liaising with our property team on HMRC option to tax paperwork
  • Provide VAT and Corporation Tax support where appropriate to meet statutory obligations

 

The individual

  • Tax qualification or qualified by experience
  • Self-starter, dependable, accurate and good at building relationships at all levels
  • Excellent interrogation of data skills
  • Proficient in multiple tax disciplines – VAT and Corporate Tax essential
  • Internal audit experience desirable
