The role

Location: This role is on-site at our BC Distribution Centre on Annacis Island (Delta, BC).

What You’ll Do

 

This Lab Technician will be responsible for glazing all frame to follow jobs as directed by Senior Lab Technician or Customer Service Supervisor on day-to-day basis, with high focus on quality standards

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Traying up the jobs to create workflow on day-to-day basis.
  • Pre-prepping the lenses by cleaning, marking lenses and separating them as per the job types.
  • Inspect lenses for defects such as scratches, warping, or incorrect prescriptions before glazing.
  • Tracing, blocking and glazing lenses according to prescriptions.
  • Clean and fit lenses into frames accurately.
  • Use diagnostic tools and measurement data to check lens accuracy, ensure it complies with Specsavers quality, standards and report any trends or recurring defects to leadership.
  • Use manual and automated equipment as required to achieve optimal lens alignment and quality.
  • Verify lens parameters such as thickness, curvature, and power using tools like lensometers and calipers.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment, including lens edgers, blockers, and surfacing machines. If any issues occur, please raise it with your line manager,
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure the accuracy and functionality of machines.
  • Processing frame to follow jobs efficiently to meet deadlines and KPI’s.
  • To perform your duties diligently and in a manner that complies with company and general health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with line manager to address any lens, fitting issues or quality issues.
  • Work closely with Customer Service and store teams to clarify prescription, fit or tolerance issues, offering technical support and helping resolve complex glazing problems quickly.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance logs, and repairs.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve production efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high standards and optimize performance.
  • Complete any other reasonable tasks assigned by the line manager.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an Optical environment.
  • Basic Computer skills – Windows, Internet, Email, Excel, Word etc.
  • Language: English.
  • Excellent communication skills in English are required to read, write, and communicate.
  • Previous edging and glazing experience

 

Nice to have:

  • Ability and confidence to deal with complex situations from start to finish with minimal supervision.

 

Compensation: $21 - $26 hourly rate, plus quarterly bonus, profit sharing, and benefits. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience
