The Licensed/Registered Contact Lens Fitter is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of eyewear dispensing, while sharingknowledge and working alongside the retail and clinical team. This role further elevates our clinical services by providing dedicated contact lens fitting services, allowing patients to explore different contact lens options, while ensuring the optimal vision, fit, and comfort.
The role is key to our ambition of delivering exceptional eye care services and products in the industry, drive dispensing efficiencies, elevate our customers’ experience, and strengthen the clinical and dispensary reputation of the Specsavers’ brand as we grow.
About Role
You will work closely with the store partners, optometrist(s), store manager, dispensing Optician(s) and eye care consultant(s), to achieve the store’s objectives and build customer/patient loyalty. In this role you will be contributing your knowledge and experience throughout our customer journey in the dispensing process of eyewear and contact lens fittings. You will be engaging with our patients and customers while discovering or reemphasizing their eyewear needs, educating them on products, and providing contact lens fitting services to
complement their eyewear needs. Our goal is to ensure the consistent delivery of the best quality of service and eyewear products that our patients and customers have ever experienced.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs contact lens evaluations and fittings, in accordance with the patient’s ocular needs, ensuring integrity of the fit by using instrumentation.
- Provides patient training in the insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses through hands-on practice and written instructions.
- Provides follow-up lens assessments, and/or refers patient back to original prescriber for verification of lens fit.
- Answers questions resolving patient-related contact lens problems.
- Provides thorough documentation of all of the above items in the patient’s medical record.
- Orders all contact lenses by accurately specifying lens parameters; verifies lens specifications on delivery prior to patient notification; maintains database of lenses ordered and received.
- Maintains inventory levels by auditing and ordering trial lenses and supplies.
- Assist our patients and customers understand their visual needs/ocular conditions, while interpreting their optical prescriptions written by optometrists, ophthalmologists, and refracting opticians
- Ensure that customers receive personalized guidance with frame selection and a clear understanding of our frame and lens product options, to ensure the proper function of the eyewear based on their visual requirements and needs
- Carry out all dispensing measurements accurately using Specsavers digital measuring tool, to ensure proper function, comfort and fit of the glasses
- Knows the product portfolio well (frames, lenses, and treatments), as well as promotional offers and incentives to best inform our customers
- Effectively manage customer after care service including complaints, using appropriate problem-solving techniques to provide a customer focused resolution
- Conducts quality assurance checks and final inspections in-store to ensure that the product we deliver meet the required specifications
- Conduct adjustments, repairs, and trouble shoot eyeglasses as required
- Carry out the eyewear collection procedure accurately and efficiently, using best practice to ensure we deliver a positive and memorable experience for our customers
- Keep up to date with contact lens promotions and recommend a contact lens fitting as directed by the Contact Lens Practitioner or Store Manager/Retail Partner
- Ensure dispensing processes are carried out following the provincial Opticianry professional standards of Practice and Guidelines, and Specsavers best practices
- Carry out the professional responsibilities of third-party billing while ensuring a clear understanding of fee structure and adherence to third party agreements
- Assists and supports Eye Care Consultants to ensure that every pair of glasses in dispensed complying to the provincial Opticianry Standards of Practice and Guidelines
- Being highly professional in the contact lens clinic, and work with the store and optometric teams to deliver the highest clinical and customer service standards, meeting both patient needs and achieving business objectives
- Ensure that customers receive the most thorough contact lens fitting experience and aftercare, ensuring to conduct appropriate follow up and documentation in accordance with the Opticians’ provincial standards of Practice and Guidelines
- Ensure that all customers have a clear understanding of the contact lens options for their prescription, and advise customers on eyeglass dispensing options (and the importance of glasses in tandem with contact lenses)
- Proactively engage in professional development opportunities and continuous learning, to improve your skills and product knowledge
- Support and coach other team members in improving their optical knowledge and skillset, and encourage their professional development
- Perform other tasks as needed, including store daily closing, maintaining store cleanliness, inventory counts, and other duties assigned
- Be an ambassador for the Specsavers brand at all times, while championing the behaviours and values which Specsavers stands for.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Be registered with the College of Opticians and hold a valid Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens FitterLicense in your province
- Have at least 2 yrs. of previous customer service experience, preferably in an optical dispensary environment
- Preferred – Two years' experience in contact lens fitting
- Strong organizational, time management and computer skills
- Self-starter with a problem-solving and analytical skill set
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
