Main Purpose of the Team
The Technology team provides the IT services that helps our business run and grow. This is by giving our store and support office colleagues the tools and equipment that enable them to be great at what they do, which is to help our customers.
Main Purpose of the Role
To ensure the quality and functionality of software applications through systematic and automated testing.
As the test analyst, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and control of various test activities across the development lifecycle, ensuring quality and accuracy before the final product is released. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define test cases. The role will play an important part in supporting the Technology annual plan and be part of initiatives such as the ongoing development of our core Practice Management System, as well as implementing new or improving technologies in our stores and support office.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute automated test scripts for business applications using automated tools such as QTest, or similar.
- Work closely with business analysts and developers to understand business requirements and translate them into test cases.
- Identify, document, and track defects and issues, ensuring they are resolved in a timely manner.
- Perform regression testing to ensure new changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.
- Analyze test results and provide comprehensive reports on testing outcomes.
- Participate in requirement reviews and provide feedback on testability and quality.
- Continuously improve testing processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in automated testing.
- Ability to dissect complex systems and identify potential issues.
Key Skills Ability or Experience
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring even the smallest bugs are caught to maintain software performance
- Test Planning: Outlining the scope, approach, resources, and schedule of testing activities
- Test Case Design: Creating detailed, step-by-step scenarios to validate software functionality
- Automation Tools: Familiarity with one or more QA Automation Tools like Tosca, Testim, Ranorex, Leapwork, TestComplete. Prior experience with scripting tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Puppeteer, TestCafe is advantageous for easy adaptation automation tool.
- Automation Efficiency: Ability to find efficiencies through automation in all aspects of the QA landscape, not just testing.
- Technical Understanding: Good grasp of underlying technologies for both modern and legacy software applications. For web-based applications, this includes understanding HTML structure and components, API calls, authentication techniques, and cookie handling.
- Test Execution: Experience in executing test cases manually or using automated testing tools
- API Testing: Exposure to API testing is beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of APIs, protocols such as SOAP, architectural styles like REST, query languages such as GraphQL, and industry-standard API tools like Postman, SoapUI, Insomnia, Swagger UI is advantageous.
- Defect Tracking: Identifying, documenting, and managing bugs throughout the testing lifecycle
- Collaboration: Working closely with developers, business analysts, and business partners to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage
- Communication Skills: Effectively reporting findings and collaborating with development teams
- Skillset Expansion: Desire to expand skillset beyond low-code tooling and adapt to business needs as required, including personal development should a more preferable approach arise.
- Optimisation: Look for opportunities to optimise QA tasks for autonomous operation. For example, reduce manual intervention and trigger execution runs by integrating QA tasks into development pipelines for a hands-off experience.
