We’re continuing to shine the spotlight on some of our newest partners in our newest province, Manitoba. Meet Lorenzo Sciaretta, Retail Partner at Specsavers SmartCentres Winnipeg West.
Lorenzo’s career as an optician began in Italy, where he worked alongside his father in the family business. After graduating in 1991, he worked his way from being a lab tech to gaining optical retail experience and observing his father giving eye exams. Together, they successfully owned and operated four store locations by the time Lorenzo moved to Canada in 1998.
How has your family’s business influenced your passion for opticianry?
It’s been a family tradition for three generations. I remember at the age of 10 already playing in the lab with the demo lenses and “fixing” broken frames. My interest in the edging process started earlier – understanding the physics behind it, the lens and frame materials etc., all contributed to me pursuing a career in the optical industry. My goal is to provide customers with a product that isn’t just a vision aid but a fashion statement, an accessory for every day.
What led you to join Specsavers?
After moving to Canada, I started to work for various optical chains expanding my knowledge in the optical industry. In 2016, I opened my first independent store in the Caribbean and then a store in 2020 in Winnipeg.
In an industry that is changing fast, I decided to close my stores and join Specsavers in November 2024. After learning about Specsavers, their product, vision, and the possibility to grow, I knew this was the right decision for me.
What do you think makes Specsavers special?
Specsavers isn’t just an optical company. It’s a community of colleagues with the same goal: to help make great quality products and care accessible to everyone.
Specsavers Canada has a great support team that guides me to succeed, and I’d recommend them to any colleague who is looking for the opportunity to run their own business.
