Celebrating our Beginnings: Specsavers’ Annual Ping Pong Tournament

When our journey began in 1984, Doug and Mary Perkins embarked on a mission to make eyecare and eyewear affordable and accessible to everyone. What started out on a ping pong table in their spare room has now grown into the world’s largest optometrist-led, privately-owned company, caring for over 44 million patients and customers globally.

Each year, we celebrate our roots with an annual table tennis tournament, honouring Doug and Mary’s pioneering spirit and embodying the collaborative, innovative, and fun values that define our workplace culture. In Canada, we had our second tournament where colleagues of all skill levels joined in the fun.

It’s a time when our colleagues showcase their paddle prowess, engage in some friendly competition, and, most importantly, have a blast. We’re a community united by a passion for service and a love for a good game of ping pong.
