I always look forward to reading the results of customer feedback – Jessica Benson, Retail Partner

Read how Specsavers Lambton Mall Retail Partner, Jessica Benson, RO, achieved her hopes of business ownership.

Q: What has inspired your journey within the optical industry?

I always wanted to have a career where I could have a positive impact on people’s lives, but I struggled to define what that could look like for me. I was lucky enough to get a job in the optical industry, working with amazing people who inspired and encouraged me to pursue a career as an optician. I worked in some management roles over the years, but I always felt somewhat limited with the level of input I had, as well as the type of leadership role I wanted to have.

Q: How is partnership with Specsavers different from other options in the industry?

I always saw myself as someone who could run my own business but venturing out independently in today’s market never really seemed like an option.

Starting a business without any support when it came to marketing, accounting, HR, IT and the other infrastructure required is very risky, which is why I thought a model like Specsavers’ would be ideal. I didn’t want to have to leave the industry to join a franchise because I was happy and confident as an optician, so when the opportunity to join Specsavers came up, there was no doubt in my mind that it was the right thing for me.

Q: What gives you pride in your role?

I’m proud to say that I’m part of the Specsavers family and that I get to share this with so many people, employees and customers alike. It’s also so great to see how much each team member takes pride in our platinum customer service and how their excitement translates to our customers. I always look forward to reading the results of customer feedback as well as employee surveys, which was never the case in my previous roles. It goes to show that if you take care of your people, they take care of your customers.

Q: What has been your favourite part about opening your location?

It’s hard to choose just one favourite thing, but one of them is the look of disbelief when we tell them the price. It’s amazing to be able to meet their needs and know that they’re not just happy with the price, but they’re excited about it! Often they’ll ask for business cards or flyers to pass along to people they know. It makes the atmosphere so much more enjoyable for both the customer and our team.

Q: Why would you recommend partnership with Specsavers to another optician?

It’s great to be part of a growing organization that places such a high importance on fair and honest pricing, while still upholding the highest standards of quality products and patient care.

Specsavers also truly values their employees, partners and doctors, listening to our needs and suggestions. We always have the support we need and the freedom to run our businesses as we see fit, and without the high pressure and stress that often comes with other corporate brands.

Whether you have an existing business or you’re looking to start out, we have a partnership that could work for you. Our partnership team can tell you how.
