Optometrist Spotlight: Dr. Mannie Dhillon

Dr. Mannie Dhillon has had a passion for biomedical sciences for as long as she can remember. Coupled with her devotion to wanting to help people, she felt that the field of optometry brought these two passions together perfectly. After receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, she realized optometry was undoubtedly the right decision. Since then, Dr. Dhillon has opened her very own clinic with Specsavers and is continuously amazed by and look forward to the future of this profession.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in Vancouver and finished my undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia, after that I received my Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in the USA. On the side, I mentor prospective optometry students and am a clinical preceptor. I find teaching extremely rewarding, I am always open to helping optometry students and new graduates along their journey.

Outside of the clinic, I love spending time with my family and friends outdoors. I am definitely an outdoorsy person. I feel so lucky to live in British Columbia where there is endless beauty to explore.

Q. Why was Specsavers’ purpose of “changing lives through better sight” important to you?

As someone who has always been an advocate for my patients, it was important for me to find a company that aligned with my values. Changing lives through better sight resonates with me because we truly do need exceptional ocular health and vision to flourish as a society. If these needs are left unmet or untreated, this will adversely impact all other aspects of our lives.

Q. What do you like about working with Specsavers?

One of my goals is to be able to provide affordable and accessible eyecare to everyone. With Specsavers, they empower me to reach this goal by investing in the most advanced clinical equipment. My clinic is equipped with the latest multifunctional autorefraction and detection technology, visual fields equipment and OCT technology. As an optometrist, this helps me to better detect ocular and systemic diseases.

At Specsavers, I am surrounded by individuals who share the same passion and excitement about quality eye health. Our common goal provides me the support and I need to concentrate on what really matters most, our patients and customers.
