Optical Dispensing
Our Optical Dispensers are highly-skilled professionals who advise on, fit and supply the most appropriate solution for each and every customer, taking into account individual visual and lifestyle needs. They advise on lenses for night driving, UV protection, computer use, prescription sunglasses, low-vision aids, dry eye, sports and safety eyewear. As experts in their field, they also play a vital role in advising and dispensing to customers who are partially sighted as well as to children, where appropriate.

At Specsavers, we believe in empowering our team members to fulfil their career ambitions. To support this, every Optical Assistant (OA) in our business has the opportunity to undertake in-house training as part of our Learning Journey. Our Learning Journey consists of a suite of training modules to take you as far as you want to go from every day prescriptions as well as the recommendation of contact lenses, through to more complex solutions.
Outstanding training and development
We see no limit to our continued professional development and neither should you. Beyond our in-house training, we provide support to our OAs who show an interest in and aptitude towards further qualifications delivered by third party education institutes. This includes the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing provided by local Registered Training Organisations and the FBDO OS level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing delivered by ABDO college (UK) with in-country classes and exams at Specsavers Support Office.

Specsavers Dispensing Conference
We recognise that professional development continues beyond qualifications, so we also provide ongoing development opportunities. Each year, we deliver lectures, peer discussions and workshops facilitated by international experts at the annual Specsavers Dispensing Conference (SDC), the largest optical dispensing conference in ANZ. Features and case studies to supplement regular in-store peer discussions are also published in our online professional journal, Profile. All of these resources are in place to enable you to be the best you can be simultaneously improving customer outcomes and realising your professional potential.
