SpecTrekkers raise more than $13,500 for The Fred Hollows Foundation
Every step helped raise more than $13,500 for The Fred Hollows Foundation, which works to end avoidable blindness in Australia and around the world. As a national charity partner, Specsavers shares this vision, and to date has donated more than $2.7 million to The Foundation.
Coastrek took place on Friday 24 May, with the route spanning the coastline, bush and bays along the Mornington Peninsula.
“Typically, wild Melbourne weather made the already tough course even more challenging, but the SpeckTrekkers team prevailed in what was a brilliant team effort and a wonderful day. I am very proud to have been involved in this special event supporting such a great cause!” commented Jackson Bilu from Specsavers’ Legal department.
Duchesne Markham from Specsavers’ PR team agreed: “While points of the track were challenging, the team effort shown by everyone involved was incredible. I’m so proud to be part of an organisation that supports The Fred Hollows Foundation which is working to see a world in which no person is needlessly blind and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to good health.”
In what was the largest event for The Fred Hollows Foundation in Australia to date, more than 3,000 hikers crossed the Coastrek finish line, collectively raising more than $1.8 million for The Foundation.
