Specsavers welcome the first ever optometry graduates from the University of Canberra

The Specsavers Graduate Optometry Team are proud to welcome the first ever graduate intake from the University of Canberra as they join our mid-year intake into the Specsavers Graduate Program.

Well known for working closely with universities across Australia and New Zealand and supporting the clinical growth of student optometrists, we now celebrate our first ever graduate intake from the University of Canberra. Up until recently our midyear intake into the Specsavers Graduate Program mostly consisted of students from Deakin University every August with the bulk of all other graduates joining the Specsavers Graduate Program each February from other universities across ANZ.

The Specsavers Graduate Optometry team supports new graduates throughout the recruitment process conducting initial interviews to identify graduate’s employment interests before matching them with suitable store partners. As Sophie Stephan, Head of Graduate Optometry ANZ  says, “It is important to us that graduates have the opportunity to meet their potential mentor and team members, as team dynamics significantly influence employee satisfaction.”

Universities across Australia and New Zealand graduate around 400 new optometrists every year with student cohorts increasing in size year on year. We have secured the majority of the University of Canberra midyear cohort, thus placing Specsavers in a strong recruitment position as the employer of choice.

We look forward to supporting and developing our graduate optometrists from the University of Canberra as they progress through the Specsavers Graduate Program and look forward to continuing to support and develop our University of Canberra student optometrists as they commence their clinical placements in our stores.
