This March we welcomed 116 of our 173 optometry graduates to the business at the Specsavers graduate induction event hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Running over three days, this bi-annual event was joined by optometry graduates from Australia and New Zealand embarking on the Graduate Program with Specsavers.
The graduates were full of energy and excited to be at the MCG, sharing that they loved the delicious food, the atmosphere throughout the event and impressive views of Melbourne.
The Graduate Induction is the first event in our two-year Graduate Program, where graduates could meet several members of the Specsavers team and the Graduate Development team who will be there to support them along their journey.
The event included a combination of lecture-style presentations and small workshops designed to equip graduates with the skills, knowledge, behaviours and values they need to succeed in their optometry career with Specsavers.
Throughout the induction, the aim was to share Specsavers’ vision and values, and an insight into the business. This included information on professional development and conduct, eye health stakeholders such as RANZCO, Glaucoma Australia, Diabetes Australia, government and technology available in-store.
The small workshops were facilitated by a range of specialists at Specsavers who discussed topics such as professional communication, therapeutics, Medicare, contact lenses and ophthalmic lenses.
The graduates were all eager to learn and said a highlight was the small workshops because they were involved in group discussions giving them a more in-depth understanding of topics that they can use in clinical practice.
After the presentations and workshops, graduates had the opportunity to connect with peers across Australia and New Zealand at a range of social events, such as dinners and a Welcome event.
The three-day graduate induction event was a success and we are proud to grow our optometry workforce, with our largest intake, having 116 of our 172 graduates attending from the 2019 cohort.
