Are you passionate about bringing clarity to complex regulations and enabling a safe, compliant tech environment where teams can thrive?
Join Specsavers as our new Technology Compliance Officer and play a key role in safeguarding how we operate across our Northern European markets.

Your role

As our Tech. Compliance Officer, you act as the compliance focal point across Northern Europe — connecting Tech, Legal, Data Protection, and regulators to ensure a unified interpretation of requirements and a coordinated approach to compliance.

You will guide product teams and leadership in understanding regulatory obligations such as NIS2, GDPR, PCI DSS, DORA, and local healthcare and data‑related laws. You’ll help embed compliance into product design, support audits, maintain registers, and ensure that our organisation stays one step ahead of regulatory change. This role is all about creating clarity, building trust, and turning complex frameworks into practical, sustainable ways of working.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as the primary GRC advisor for NE tech teams and business stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment on regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant regulations (e.g., NIS2, GDPR, PCI DSS, DORA) and guide the organisation in staying compliant.
  • Lead and coordinate compliance activities, including Compliance Forums, annual compliance cycles, audits, registers, controls, and documentation.
  • Enable and coach product teams to embed compliance and risk management into solution and product design.
  • Maintain the regional risk register and ensure timely follow‑up on mitigation actions and incident‑related reporting.
  • Provide clear reporting to management on compliance status, risks, progress, and regulatory changes.

Your new team

You will join the Technology Backoffice & Retail Infrastructure function and work closely with Tech Product Managers, Legal, Data Protection & Privacy, Group InfoSec, Group Risk, and the NE Strategy, Risk & Architecture teams.

Our Technology organisation operates in a remote‑first setup, but we meet physically every 4–6 weeks for workshops focused on collaboration, problem‑solving, and connection.

What your new manager has to say

“For me, it’s important that things are clear, transparent, and properly thought through — especially around risk and compliance. We move fast in Northern Europe Technology, and this role supports our product teams by helping them build compliance in from the start - and remain compliant in an ever-changing environment. Acting as a trusted advisor, it allows us to deliver solutions that meet local regulations while staying focused on what matters most: changing lives through better sight and hearing"

- Brian Østerkjærhuus Jensen, Head of Technology Back Office and Retail Infrastructure.

What are we looking for?

We are preferably looking for someone who has the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical compliance, with strong understanding of relevant regulations (e.g., NIS2, GDPR) and their practical implications.
  • Proven experience working with regulators, audits, and translating regulatory requirements into clear guidance for stakeholders.
  • Highly structured and detail‑oriented, with strong coordination and communication skills across all levels.
  • Ability to stay up to date on evolving compliance landscapes and present meaningful insights up to executive level.
  • Service‑minded and proactive, comfortable working across cultures and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.

I’d be nice to that you have:

  • Knowledge of healthcare and patient‑data legislation
  • Understanding of retail operations and related regulations
  • Experience working in Agile product environments
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools
  • Knowledge of ITIL, ISO 27001/2, NIS CAF
  • NIS2 Lead Auditor or Implementer certification

As a person, we hope that you are:

  • Curious and passionate about regulation and compliance
  • Structured, dependable, and proactive
  • An excellent communicator
  • Collaborative and comfortable working with diverse stakeholders
  • Calm under pressure and able to bring clarity in complex situations
