Being a hearing aid dispenser at Specsavers

Our hearing aid dispensers are an essential part of our Audiology teams. They assess our customers’ hearing, advise them on the best hearing care or protection, and fit hearing aids. They’re there to listen and build trust with customers, so that they can improve hearing and reconnect them with their lives in the ways that matter most. Join us and you’ll have the freedom to grow your career in audiology with the support of your store team around you. And after you graduate, you’ll have access to a wide range of opportunities to train and develop, whether it’s in clinical expertise, leadership skills or you want to specialise.

Who is this role for?

Maybe you want to earn as you learn or fit in a qualification alongside your homelife. We’re here to support you whether you’re just starting out after education, or if you fancy a complete career change.

Hearing Aid Dispenser Apprentices will be continually assessed throughout their time on the course. This will include campus-based practical assessments halfway through the course, and at the end. You will have a logbook in-store to record your development on the job, and undertake traditional written exams throughout the course.

Routes into the role

We offer two ways to become a qualified hearing aid dispenser.

If you’re in England you can apply for the apprenticeship HAD which is a higher Level 5 apprenticeship, equivalent to a foundation degree.

In Scotland, Wales and Ireland, we offer the trainee hearing aid dispenser position where you’ll do a foundation degree in Hearing Aid Dispensing. Both routes offer you external qualifications, accredited by the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and your course provider.

The best part is, both courses are fully funded either through the apprenticeship levy or by the store you’ll be working in. And you’ll receive a competitive salary package while you train.

What’s on offer and what will I gain?

As a hearing aid dispenser apprentice, you’ll split your time between a Specsavers store and one of our registered course providers, learning the ropes on-campus and putting it all into practice with us. When you complete the apprenticeship, you’ll be a registered Level 5 Hearing Aid Dispenser. This is a qualification recognised by the Health Care Professional Council (see more here).

Not only will we fund your course fees, but you’ll also earn a salary in your first year of training of £18,000-21,000, which will increase to £21,000-£23,000 as you start to lead consultations. After this, you’ll be ready to progress to further roles in audiology.

As a trainee Hearing Aid Dispenser, you’ll open many doors, whilst working for an exciting, fast paced and innovative company. You’ll be able to apply for Hearing Aid Dispenser roles across the country. And with further progress, you could excel in other opportunities that you might not have considered or even be aware of, including store management, staff training or even running your own store as an Audiology Partner (if that’s where you see yourself!).
