Be a locum with Specsavers
At Specsavers, we do a lot more than just sell glasses. We work in communities across the UK and ROI to make eyecare and hear care affordable and accessible to all. With your help, we can make sure that every customer receives the best care possible. As a locum with Specsavers, you can manage your working week easily through the Locate a Locum app and you’ll have access to our dedicated locum support team. We have locum shifts available across a number of roles, including optometrist, audiologist, optical assistant, lab technician, dispensing optician and within our home visits team.

Before you download the app, ensure you sign up to Specsavers in partnership with Locate a Locum.
Step 1
Upload compliance documents
When adding your compliance documents in the app please make sure all valid from and expiry dates entered match your documents. For more info on compliance documents, please visit our FAQs.
Step 2
Download the app
Once you have completed your profile, download the 'Locate a Locum' app from the Apple app store or Google Play store to your device.
Step 3
Training Module
Complete your mandatory Infosec training as soon as you can. This is available on the Specsavers page of the Locate a Locum app.
Step 4
Raise an invoice
Once you have completed a shift, log into the SEP Portal to raise an invoice.
Optometrist
As a Locum optometrist with Specsavers you will be able to work with the latest technology including OCT and work as part of a store team to make a difference to people’s lives by providing best value eyecare. You will be able to control your own diary by choosing when and where you work. Our locum opportunities are available across our businesses in the UK and Ireland.
Audiologist
When you locum with the UK & Ireland’s largest high street supplier of digital hearing aids you are in a great position to offer your patients, both NHS and private, the best products at the best possible prices, along with exceptional service. To help you deliver first class customer service you will be supported by a highly trained team, and you will also have access to work with the latest technology.
Home Visits
The Specsavers Home Visits teams provide eye care to customers in the comfort of their own homes giving you the opportunity to help some of the most vulnerable in our society. As you will be on the road you’ll need to be able to drive and have access to your own car for the majority of roles. We have Locum opportunities available for Optical Assistants and Optometrists in Home Visits. If you would like to know more about working for our home visit business but don’t currently have domiciliary experience, please get in touch with us below and we can arrange a domiciliary shadow day for you.

We have locum positions available throughout our stores across the UK and Ireland.
All of our available shifts can be viewed in the locate a locum app. Please use this link to sign up and create a profile, once you have been approved you will be able to view available shifts.
To help you register and upload your compliance documents, follow the simple steps below:
- Click on the link and complete your profile within the Locate a Locum system
- Add your compliance documents, ensuring the dates you enter in the app match the dates on your compliance documents
- Once you have completed your profile, download the “Locate a Locum” app from the Google/Apple store to your mobile device
- Once you have been approved in the app you can begin to book your locum shifts with our businesses
As a Specsavers Locum you will need to complete the mandatory InfoSec Training module. All training that is available will be shown in the app.
As a Specsavers locum you will earn an hourly rate. The exact amount will depend on the locum position and location.
Please log into the Specsavers SEP Portal to raise an invoice once you have completed your shift.
Optometrists, Audiologists, Dispensing Optician, Contact Lens Opticians and Optical Assistants
Please arrive at the Specsavers store wearing a navy suit / skirt / trousers with a white shirt. You’ll likely be provided with a Specsavers iWear tie or scarf to ensure you look part of the in store team. The tie/scarf should be left on the premises before you leave.
Lab Technicians
Please arrive at Specsavers wearing dark trousers (not jeans) and a white shirt.
