Learning and Development
Take your career in the direction you choose
We believe in squiggly careers
For us, a career isn’t a straight line. It can go in many different directions. And the route you take is up to you. We want you to feel fulfilled in your role, to know you can grow in your own way and to understand that anything is possible. Want to work in a different area of the business? We’ll help you to recognise your transferable skills. Looking to specialise in a certain area? Let’s find you the right training. It’s all here waiting for you.
Say hello to a more squiggly career.
People focused progression
We want people to grow with us, which is why we’re committed to your continuous professional development. It’s all about being curious and looking for opportunities to learn. We’re here to make sure you can find the path that’s right for you. If you’re new to the business, we’ll help you to learn about us and feel comfortable in your role. When you’re ready to push yourself, we’ll work with you so you can progress and work towards promotion or change in role

Growing in a retail role
There’s so much you can learn when you join us in store. Where you go and how quickly you get there is up to you. We offer Levels 1 to 4 Certificates for our Optical Assistant roles and Level 1 and 2 for Admin roles. You could choose to do an apprenticeship, within England, for our Spectacle Technician, Admin or Optical Assistant roles. And with our Leadership and Management programme you can gain industry-recognised qualifications (ILM) which can lead you to a retail director role or be the first step on the path to becoming a partner
Developing our support office
Learning and development at Specsavers isn’t just about supporting everyone to be the best they can be. For us, it’s thinking about what comes next and helping you gain the skills you need to get there. Our Accelerate programme is focused on people who are ready to take that next step, immersing them in a 9–12-month programme that can help them get there faster. We’re also growing and empowering the next generation of managers with our Management Development offering. And we’ve built a comprehensive Global Leadership offer to ensure our leaders live the behaviours we believe in and live up to the expectations we have.

Getting to know Specsavers
We know there’s a lot to learn when you first start. We offer a series of sessions, over three months, for you to get to know our business, from Optometry to Home Visits and how we’re Stronger Together. This is your chance to see what we do, ask questions and build relationships.

Apprenticeships
Learning for all levels
Our apprenticeships are open to anyone, at any level across the business. Depending on your area of interest, you could take on an Optical Assistant, Spectacle Technician, Hearing Aid Dispenser or Customer Service apprenticeship.

Sharing our experiences
We know there’s a lot to learn when you first start. We offer a series of sessions, we believe we all have valuable knowledge to share and that we can learn from those around us. So, at Specsavers, we offer upward mentorship with supervisors and managers, to help colleagues step into new roles and responsibilities. And we encourage reverse mentorship to share our wider skillsets and build stronger relationships across our business.
Self-directed learning
The learning hub
Our digital learning platform offers you the chance to pick up new skills and focus on different topics at your own pace. Here you’ll find ways to work on your own personal development for example how to build your confidence or manage your mindset.
Professional advancement
Supporting you
We’re here to offer you all the support you need at every stage of your career. For clinical roles, we offer development sessions and we host the Professional Advancement Conference (PAC) each year, so that you can continue to earn the points you need to stay registered.

"There’s no sort of locking into any one particular role. You get to touch a lot of different departments, and you get to collaborate across the business and I’m really proud to say that I work here."
