You've worked hard to qualify as an optometrist. But what if your ambition goes beyond clinical practice?
The Future Leader Programme is a two-year accelerated development programme for newly qualified optometrists with the potential and ambition to become a future leader. Designed to fit alongside your role in practice, it gives you the opportunity to build leadership skills, grow your commercial awareness and gain first-hand insight into what leadership could look like for you.

How the programme works
Year one: Leading self
Build the foundations of leadership through immersive development events, online learning, mentoring experiences and a community-focused project. You'll develop your confidence, communication skills, commercial awareness and ability to lead yourself and others.
Year two: Leading others
Take the next step by developing your people leadership, coaching and business skills. You'll gain deeper exposure to how successful businesses are run, lead meaningful projects and explore what becoming a Specsavers Partner could look like.
Support every step of the way
Throughout the programme, you'll be supported by:
- A programme sponsor
- A Partner or senior leader helping to guide your development, sharing insight, experience, and advice
- Your line manager
- An experienced mentor
What happens next?
At the end of the programme, you'll complete a final assessment and business case presentation to demonstrate your readiness for the next stage of your journey. Candidates who demonstrate the required level of readiness can progress towards the Partnership Pathway.

Who can apply?

No. The programme is designed to help you explore whether leadership is the right path for you.
How long is the programme?
Two years, alongside your day-to-day role in practice.
What support will I get?
You'll receive support from a Programme Sponsor, your Store Director or Line Manager, and an experienced Partner mentor.
Is there an assessment?
Yes. You'll complete development milestones throughout the programme and present a business case at the end of year two.
Does joining the programme guarantee partnership?
No. The programme is designed to prepare you for the Partnership Pathway, but progression will depend on your readiness and available opportunities.
