A career with Specsavers in the UK

Specsavers is a familiar name on almost every high street in the UK and we offer career opportunities across our growing number of stores and our support office.

If you’ve never worked in the UK before, or you’re a foreign national and don’t know if you’re currently eligible to work here – it can be a challenge to find the right information, particularly since the UK left the EU. To keep you clued up with the facts, here’s some more information on your rights to working in the UK.

Am I eligible to work in the United Kingdom?

You are eligible to work in the UK if you are a British citizen or if you have:

  • settled status in the UK, such as indefinite leave to remain, or EU settled status
  • valid immigration status which allows you to carry out the required work, such as a Skilled Worker visa
  • the right to apply for a family visa
  • the right to apply for a visa if you are a British overseas citizen

What if I don't have the right to work in the UK?

If you’re wanting to work in the UK and don’t meet the above criteria, there are other options you can explore, the main two being: EU settled status, or by applying for a visa. Further information regarding the eligibility criteria and requirements is below.

EU settled status

For residents of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Lichtenstein or Iceland, the deadline for applying for EU settled status in most circumstances was 30 June 2021. However, there are some exceptions to this if you were a resident in one of those countries previously, for example, if you are applying to join a family member in the UK.

Visas

There are many different types and each has its own requirements. We encourage you to follow the steps on the link below to see if you need a visa and if so what type of visa is best. There are long term work visas and short term work visas. UK Visas and Immigration will be able to help you understand who has the right to visit or stay in the UK.
