The role
We’re on an exciting journey to modernise how our IT platforms operate, and we’re looking for someone who wants to play a major role in shaping that future. As we evolve our identity and infrastructure landscape, we need a forward‑thinking architect who can help us build a secure, scalable and high‑performing foundation that the entire organisation can rely on.In this role, you’ll join our Platform team, working at the heart of our Infrastructure & Operation Platforms capability. You’ll be involved in everything from architecting and designing through to building, migrating and testing the infrastructure and identity services that power our business. You’ll define and influence how our server and infrastructure platforms operate across on‑premises, hybrid and cloud environments, including edge locations and data centres.
A big part of your role will be acting as the design authority for core infrastructure services—things like compute, hypervisors, automation, observability and lifecycle tooling. You’ll help ensure we consistently follow the right architectural patterns and make the right design decisions. You’ll also help set the direction by shaping platform roadmaps, exploring emerging technologies and assessing the best options for major change programmes, whether that’s a server refresh, a data centre exit or a cloud transformation.
Collaboration is at the heart of the role. You’ll work closely with Platform Owners, SMEs and Engineers across Networks, Cloud, Identity and Security, making sure everything fits together seamlessly. You'll partner with Solution Architects and project teams to ensure our designs meet the required business and non‑functional needs. And you’ll keep resilience, observability and security front and centre as part of everything you design.
To thrive here, you’ll bring a strong background in infrastructure architecture and deep experience designing enterprise‑scale hosting platforms. You’ll be comfortable with modern server infrastructure—virtualisation technologies like VMware, Hyper‑V or AHV, hyperconverged platforms such as Nutanix or Azure Stack HCI, and traditional physical server design. You’ll also have hands‑on experience in hybrid environments that blend on‑premises and public cloud, particularly Azure or AWS.
If you’re familiar with automation and infrastructure‑as‑code—Terraform, Ansible or PowerShell DSC—you’ll feel right at home. Experience across both centralised data centre setups and distributed edge or store environments will really help you hit the ground running. It’s even better if you’ve worked in retail or supply chain environments, or if you’ve led modernisation or cost‑optimisation initiatives. Knowledge of observability tools like Splunk, Prometheus or Grafana, or exposure to frameworks like ITIL, IT4IT or TOGAF, would also be advantageous.
This is a role where your expertise genuinely shapes the direction of our technology. You’ll have real influence, genuine autonomy and the space to introduce better ways of working. You’ll be joining a team that values pragmatism, collaboration and continuous improvement—and you’ll be helping us build something sustainable, secure and future‑proof.
If this sounds like the kind of challenge you’ve been looking for, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now as this role closes on the 27th of February!
