About the stores

The South Shields store first opened its doors in 1992 so is a well-established business within the local community. It sits in the prime position on the main high street and boasts 5 test rooms as well as the facilities for glazing on-site. A dedicated team of 32 colleagues call this store home including 4 deputy managers and 2 experienced optometry directors.

The much newer store Jarrow is situated just 4 miles from the South Shields store. Opened in the spring of 2024, this brand new store is situated in a busy pedestrianised shopping precinct, close to Morrisons superstore and various popular high street shops.  It has 4 test rooms and 1 audiology room. The new team consists of 12 enthusiastic and capable colleagues.

There are excellent transport links, a metro station is situated 2 minutes walk from the store where you can reach South Shields in 20 minutes and Newcastle in around half an hour. The A19 runs through Jarrow, whilst the beautiful beaches of Sandhaven and Marsden are minutes away from the South Shields store.

Requirements of the role

Alongside being an experienced retailer with experience in Optics, the right person for this position will be confident, possess a strong worth ethic and a willingness to succeed. You’ll be passionate about your job and enjoy a fast-paced environment. You’ll be willing to go the extra mile for customers and someone who encourages their team to do the same.
