Our Community

Creating a positive future

We believe in possibility

We believe healthcare is a basic human right, not a privilege. That’s why we work tirelessly to change lives through better sight and hearing by making quality, affordable eye and hearing care available to everyone.

To support those in our community who may face barriers to access, we’re proud to support local, national, and international organisations and charities. We work with industry partners to improve prevention and early detection of vision and hearing loss and we’re proud to use our scale, resources, and expertise to support our local communities.

Doing this helps our people feel connected to the communities in which we operate, and gives them the opportunity to personally make a difference – whether that be through matched fundraising or volunteering opportunities.

Supporting the Fred Hollows Foundation

Our long-term partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation is helping to improve access to eye care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Pacific Islander communities, strengthening regional eye health services and building the local eye health workforce to help end avoidable blindness. We support The Fred Hollows Foundation through financial and in-kind donations, as well as skilled volunteerism, to ensure people in regional and remote communities can access high-quality, culturally safe, and patient-centric eye care, as well as life-changing eye surgery and treatment.

Since 2011, our donations have helped The Foundation and its program partners to conduct over 320,000 eye tests, perform over 12,000 cataract surgeries and 18,000 other sight-saving operations, deliver 18,000 diabetic retinopathy treatments, and train over 13,000 eye health workers.

Patient support bodies

As the largest provider of eye care across Australia and New Zealand, we take great responsibility in supporting the eye health industry and we are committed to working in partnership with patient support bodies to ensure all people living with eye health conditions and vision loss are supported and cared for. We work closely with range of support bodies including:

  • Diabetes Australia
  • Glaucoma Australia
  • Macular Disease Foundation Australia
  • Vision Australia
