Development opportunities
Be the best you can be
Since we began in 1984, our founders, Doug and Mary Perkins, have believed in giving people the space to learn and grow. That belief still drives us today - because we know our business can only grow when our people do. At Specsavers, you’ll always be encouraged to keep learning - with the support and tools you need to build your future.
And the best part? It’s why so many people choose to stay with us for years.
Never stop learning
because life never stops teaching
Learning that sticks
Learning is part of our everyday work - not just through classroom courses or webinars, but even more so in the tasks we take on each day. Research often explains how we learn using the 70-20-10 model. It might sound complex, but it’s actually quite simple. Let’s break it down.
There's an old Chinese proverb that sums it up perfectly:
"Tell me, and I forget; teach me, and I remember; involve me, and I learn."
Research supports this idea. Only 10% of what we learn comes from formal training - such as classroom sessions, reading a book, or watching a webinar.
Another 20% of learning happens informally - through conversations with managers, colleague feedback, or peer-to-peer sharing.
That leaves 70% - the biggest part of how we learn - which happens by doing. It's in the moments we roll up our sleeves: helping someone, solving problems, trying something new, or being part of a team and delivering work.
That's how learning truly sticks — and how we grow every single day.
One-stop shop
Learning doesn't just happen in a classroom; it happens every day in everything you do. The 70-20-10 model shows us that most learning comes from real-life experience. That means you have the freedom to shape your own development - take on new challenges, work in another country, and grow in the direction that matters to you.
And you won't be doing it alone. Our local Talent Development teams are here to support you with tools designed to help you flourish - starting with our one-stop shop learning app, GreenPoint.
With GreenPoint, you can pick up new skills and insights anytime, anywhere, and in a way that suits your purpose. Whether reading an article, following a learning module, watching a video, or chatting with colleagues on the social wall - it's all at your fingertips.
Beyond the digital tools, you can also access classroom training, webinars, team learning sessions and other gatherings. You'll have the room to reflect on what you've learned, hear new perspectives, share experiences, and find new ways to put it all into practice.
Learning that cares
At Specsavers, we're committed to making eye and hearing care accessible to everyone. But that's not a journey we can take alone. It takes collaboration - across countries, teams, roles, and even the wider industry - to make a lasting difference.
Whether you join us at our support office or work directly with customers, you’ll be part of something bigger - helping care professionals everywhere become even better at what they do. And just like we invest in our own people, we also invest in the growth of the entire eye and hearing care industry.
Viewpoint is our free online learning platform for professionals, students, and the wider industry. It offers:
Practical clinical handbooks, expert-led videos and interviews, e-learning modules for students to help them earn CET points, and more - all developed with top industry experts.
Let's get clinical
Specsavers hosts one of the industry’s flagship gatherings, the annual Clinical Conference. It’s open to all and completely free to attend.
The Clinical Conference offers a chance to stay at the forefront of the industry, hear from renowned experts, and connect with opticians, optometrists, hearing care professionals, students, and others from across healthcare – all united by a shared commitment: making better care accessible for everyone.
From expert presentations and the latest clinical insights to authentic conversations with peers who understand the challenges, it’s the place where research meets practice, skills develop, and careers advance.
Clinical Conference takes place in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands, and sessions and programmes are available in the local language.
Careers as journeys, not just jobs.
No two career paths are the same - and that’s precisely how it should be.
Whether you're new to the team or have been with us for years, you'll always be encouraged to stay curious and keep learning. Growth doesn't always mean moving up - sometimes, it's about going deeper and becoming even better at what you love.
Whether aiming higher or building on your strengths, the journey is yours - the support is ours.
