Specsavers OCANZ Support

At Specsavers we are well versed in supporting overseas-trained optometrists to successfully complete OCANZ exams – enabling them to immigrate and practise here in Australia and New Zealand as fully-qualified local optometrists. Over the past nine years, our OCANZ Support team has helped over 130 overseas-trained optometrists through this program.

Living the Australian dream: Lesley Allan

Envisioning a different lifestyle for her young family, Scottish optometrist Lesley Allan decided to move to Australia. Here, she describes the process of qualifying to practise optometry in Australia through the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand (OCANZ), and how, with Specsavers’ assistance, she was able to realise her dream.

Only months after Shelley Wang and Ryan Gibson became Joint Venture Partners (JVPs) of Specsavers Glenfield in New Zealand, their store expanded to accommodate increasing demand and state-of-the-art technology. Partnership grows #STRONGER at biennial Specsavers partner seminar

Specsavers store partners came together on Saturday 2 March at the ICC in Sydney’s Darling Harbour for the biennial Specsavers Partnership Seminar. More than 800 partners and support team members were present for the event, which was themed ‘#STRONGER’ as both groups looked ahead towards the continued strengthening of the Specsavers Joint Venture Partnership.

Optometry – more than improving vision

Each year, Specsavers sponsors a selection of graduate and senior optometrists to participate in an outreach where they can see and experience first-hand the work of Specsavers’ national charity partner, The Fred Hollows Foundation. Patrycja Zelazny, a graduate optometrist at Specsavers Taylors Lakes in Victoria, participated in one such outreach at the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva, Fiji from 3 to 7 June. Here, she shares what she witnessed, and how it changed her perceptions of optometry.
