“We’ve got each other’s backs” – Lauren talks teamwork at Specsavers

For Lauren Kerr, an optometrist at Specsavers Dundee, the real appeal of her role isn’t just about helping people see clearly- it’s about being part of a team that supports each other. Her journey started years ago when she began working there on Saturdays during school. “We’ve got a big, supportive team, and we all help each other out,” Lauren shares. “There’s always someone around to offer advice, and we manage to have a laugh together too.”

Focusing on the patient

When it comes to patient care, Lauren’s approach is clear: everyone is valued and unique. “I don’t just go through the motions,” she says. “I take the time to understand each patient and their individual needs.” This approach ensures every patient gets the attention they deserve and leaves knowing they’ve had a test that’s all about them- not just ticking boxes.

Support from the entire team

Lauren might be the one doing the eye test, but she’s got a whole team behind her. “We have a fantastic support team who handle tasks like visual fields and post-test checks,” she says. “That means I can focus fully on my patients, knowing the rest of the clinic is in safe hands. And with our rolling clinic system, we keep things running smoothly”.

Efficiency without compromise

Let’s face it: we all know time is precious, but that doesn’t mean care should be rushed. “We’ve got great technology, like OCT and autorefraction,” Lauren explains. “These tools help me provide the best care quickly and accurately, while making sure each patient feels valued and respected throughout the process.”

Teamwork for an exceptional patient experience

At the heart of it all is teamwork- and not just any teamwork, but the kind that makes sure everything runs like clockwork. “We all look out for each other,” Lauren says. “If someone needs help, we step in. Whether it’s an urgent question or just a hand with a tricky case, we’ve got each other’s backs. This makes sure our patients have the best possible experience every time.”
