Embarking on a journey in optics
Imagine starting your career journey as a 14-year-old schoolboy, stepping into the world of optics at Specsavers Dundee. This is where Marc Funai's adventure began. "My journey in optics started when I came to Specsavers Dundee to do my work experience. I had a fantastic week working across the store and 18 months later applied to be a Saturday boy. I got the job and the adventure began."
The dynamic environment
One of the most exciting aspects of working at Specsavers the constant growth and evolution. Marc says, "I think the hustle and bustle of Specsavers is great. Things are always moving, changing and evolving. There is a great mix and depth of experience which allows for lots of support and to be supportive."
A personal touch in every test
"I adapt the test to suit the patient while maintaining my routine to ensure thoroughness and consistency. To do this I put more emphasis on the parts of the test that address the patients' concerns and spend time explaining results in detail."
Flexibility and patient priority
"We try to be flexible with our time, not rushing patients if we are due to finish or go for lunch. We prioritise patients above background admin tasks and offer our time and expertise to help patients in whatever way we can," Marc explains.
A place that feels like home
For Marc, Specsavers is more than just a workplace. Despite exploring other avenues in optometry, he found himself returning to Specsavers time and again. "Something about here keeps pulling me back. It’s my spiritual home," he says.
