Home is where the hearing is
Aekta Patel, Audiology Director, shares her perspective on the value of partnerships in delivering audiology care through home visits.
"It’s a tough gig. But it’s worth every second.
I’m the kind of person who likes to know the full picture before diving in. And I know I’m not alone. Some partnership models sound too good to be true—and that’s where people hesitate. But here’s the truth: it’s such a great opportunity. Not just to grow a business, but to grow people. I love nurturing others, helping them reach their goals—whether it’s personal/life goals, building a legacy, or simply finding more meaning in their work.
Partnership isn’t just about shares and salaries. It’s about building something together. You’re not alone. You’re surrounded by experts—marketing, recruitment, operations, relationship managers. You bring your strengths, and they bring theirs. Together, you build a business that reflects you.
And the best part?
You decide how big or small you want it to be. Some worry about work-life balance. I get it. One colleague told me they were scared to become a partner because they were getting married and thought they’d never get a weekend off. But that’s a myth. You have a partner. You share the load. You plan your holidays. You build a team. You create the life you want.
I was a great audiologist. But after 10 years of testing, I asked myself, “What’s next?” I wasn’t stimulated enough anymore. I needed something different. That’s what being an Audiology Director has given me.
Although, home-visits audiology is different. There are less KPIs and no test room limits. It’s about care. It’s about driving through the countryside, finding a quiet spot for lunch, and knowing that no two days are ever the same. You own your postcode. You build your community. You become a familiar face in care homes and living rooms. You’re not just delivering hearing aids—you’re delivering connection.
You’re invited into people’s homes. That’s a privilege. You hear their stories. You share cups of tea. You help with things that go far beyond hearing. And the gratitude? It’s overwhelming. You become part of their lives. And they become part of yours.
This isn’t just a job. It’s a calling.
So, who’s the perfect partner for audiology home visits? Someone who thrives on variety. Who loves driving. Who’s nurturing, patient, and quick on their feet. Someone who can handle responsibility—because yes, you’re often the only one there. But the reward? It’s priceless. You might be the highlight of someone’s week.
And the business side? You’re not alone there either. Scheduling, payroll, marketing, recruitment—it’s all supported. You focus on what you love: the clinical work and growing your business.
People think they can’t afford to own a business. But with this model, they can. And they don’t have to do it alone. You have partners. You have a team. You have a community.
So if you’re an audiologist wondering what’s next—maybe this is it".
