From law to lenses: Hannan Qureshi’s story

After years in the legal profession, Hannan Qureshi has made a bold career switch to follow his passion - becoming the new Retail Director at Specsavers Shepherds Bush.

Hannan’s journey with Specsavers began while studying law at Brunel University. Working part-time at the Greenford and Uxbridge stores for nearly eight years, he gained valuable insight into the retail world. After graduating with an LLB (Hons) in 2014, he pursued a career in law, specialising in family, employment, and commercial cases.

Realising a new ambition

But something was missing.

“I realised I didn’t have the passion to really progress in law,” Hannan shares. “I always wanted to be more than a manager - I wanted to be a driving force in a business.”

That passion led him back to Specsavers, where he joined the Shepherds Bush store as a Store Manager. His drive was that strong that even during his interview, he mentioned his goal to become a store partner one day.

A new chapter

So, with the support of Optometrist Director Onkar Singh Khambay and Retail Director Sajid Patel, Hannan started on Specsavers Pathway - a development programme designed to help team members grow into leadership roles.

“Kam and Sajid were incredibly supportive,” Hannan says. “Their mentoring helped me complete the Pathway programme within two years, and I’m so pleased to have achieved my ambition. Now it’s my turn to support the team and help them reach their goals.”

Inspiring the next generation

Onkar adds, “We’re delighted to welcome Hannan as our new store partner. He’s a fantastic role model and will inspire others to follow their ambitions - both inside and outside the business.”

For those thinking of a career change or a future at Specsavers, Hannan give this advice: “It’s worth the effort, and it’s rewarding. Specsavers genuinely care - not just about customers, but about their people too.”
