Meet Marc, Senior Manager in PR & Social, from Graduate to Senior Manager
Please introduce yourself and tell me your current role
I’m Marc Breton and I currently work in the PR & Social team as a Senior Manager.
What was your background before joining Specsavers?
I came straight to Specsavers after studying a degree in photography at the University of Portsmouth.
Tell me a little bit about your journey at Specsavers?
After university I applied for the graduate scheme (that was being run at the time) and spent a few years working my way round various departments. This included a month in store, as well as placements in group services, retail, marketing, internal comms and PR. After the graduate scheme I worked in local marketing for a year before being able to secure a permanent role in the PR team. Over the years I have worked on some amazing campaigns, projects and events.
How did Specsavers help and support your development?
I’ve been given lots of opportunities to develop my skills and I achieved Student of the Year back in 2013 for my CIPR Advanced Certificate Qualification. I’ve also been able to study for Prince2 and I’m now working towards a Mini MBA in Brand Management.
What have you learnt during your time at Specsavers?
There is so much I could say here, as I’ve been exposed to so many areas/opportunities. I feel that my negotiation skills and knowledge around contracts has vastly improved (which also helps outside of work), as well as being able to adapt – when new campaigns and projects take you out of your comfort zone.
What would you say to encourage someone thinking about applying?
Go for it, this a great company to work for and there are numerous business areas for people to hone their skills in.
Why do you love working at Specsavers?
I get to work with some amazing colleagues – we work hard but are great at supporting each other.
What one word would you use to describe the Specsavers culture?
Friendly – I’ve met the best people over my 15 years at Specsavers.
Finally, tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work
I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to visit a lot of fab destinations around the world. The next place on my bucket list would be Japan, as I’ve always wanted to go and explore that beautiful country.
